How I Got This Book: Checked it out from the library
Why I Checked It Out?: Umm, have you SEEN this COVER??!!! How fun does this book look?!? And it’s about LIBRARIES!??! HECK YES!!!
Book Jacket Blurb: “Kyle Keeley is the class clown, popular with most kids, (if not the teachers), and an ardent fan of all games: board games, word games, and particularly video games. His hero, Luigi Lemoncello, the most notorious and creative gamemaker in the world, just so happens to be the genius behind the building of the new town library.
Lucky Kyle wins a coveted spot to be one of the first 12 kids in the library for an overnight of fun, food, and lots and lots of games. But when morning comes, the doors remain locked. Kyle and the other winners must solve every clue and every secret puzzle to find the hidden escape route. And the stakes are very high.
In this cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and A Night in the Museum, Agatha Award winner Chris Grabenstein uses rib-tickling humor to create the perfect tale for his quirky characters. Old fans and new readers will become enthralled with the crafty twists and turns of this ultimate library experience.”
Are you looking for a book that is makes reading a game? Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library is a game of a novel, and it is a super fun read from beginning to end!
Kyle has won the opportunity to enter the new HUMONGOUS city library early, thanks to an essay contest hosted by Mr. Lemoncello, But once he and his fellow classmates get in the library, they find it A LOT HARDER to get back out! Why? They must solve a mystery game to find the secret way out! And all of the clues are deciphered through the Dewey Decimal system! Yippee!!
This is one of those books that I TRULY enjoyed from beginning to end. This book is one part mystery, one part game (SURVIVOR, anyone?), and one part pure adrenaline! This is a book you don’t want to stop reading because you HAVE TO SOLVE THE ALL THE CLUES! Plus, this library is just AWESOME! I want to visit a library like this! It is MAGICAL!
Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library is a fast-paced story that readers of ALL AGES will enjoy! It’s an energetic and exciting read that you will continue to talk about long after you finish it!
And, for those of you who are children’s librarians, this would seriously be a great basis for a SUPER FUN program!
My Bookshelf Rating:
This book is honestly just SUPER FUN! It is very Hunger Games/Survivor-esque, filled with board-game adventures in a library! This is just a grand ole time of a read! As a reader, you solve the clues as Kyle and his friends solve them! On the plus side, it teaches you about the Dewey Decimal Classification system! So, read an adventure and learn about your library, too!
This would also be a FANTASTIC basis for a youth program!
